Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is one of the beautiful destinations in Tanzania, most popular for its authentic wilderness experiences. This is one of the expansive parks in Tanzania and takes its name from the scenic River Tarangire. R. Tarangire flows northwards and empties its water into Lake Burunge. Tarangire National Park was founded in 1970 as one of the national parks in Tanzania and it sits on land area of 2850sq.kms. In the whole of Tanzania, it is ranked the 6th biggest. It is one of the least popular parks compared to the premier Serengeti National Park or Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

 

Tarangire National Park largely features baobab trees and countless herds of elephants. The park features beautifully lush green swamps of Gursi, Nguselorobi, Silale and Larmakau where you can spot elephants rise their thighss high as they feed. History.

 

Years back, Tarangire National Park was a designated reserve before upgrading its status as a national park in 1970. Like other parks, Tarangire National Park Tanzania derives its name from Tarangire River. R. Tarangire flows across Tarangire N/Park Tanzania and it is undoubtedly the main source of water for numerous wildlife species that the park hosts.

 

Tarangire National Park Tanzania extends up-to 2850sq.kms of land area putting it in the 6th position among Tanzania’s largest parks. The Tarangire land was previously inhabited by the Maa speaking pastoralists. This was from the 16th to 19th century and they replaced the Nilotes and the Bantu.

 

Increase in human especially the Maasai population was recorded in the 1880’s and around 1900, they were infected by pleuro pneumonia and small pox outbreak. The Maasai were later displaced in the 1880s and 1950s including the European farmers resulting into creation of many national parks. In 1970, Tarangire National Park was officially designated as a national park in the Northern Circuit of Tanzania East Africa.
